What is the crazy side of Christopher Nogy?

OK, lets get down to the stuff so many people want to ask.  They say “OK, so you have to be a whack-job to run as an independent, you don’t stand a chance, so tell me, Do you believe in extra-terrestrials?  What about the truth of 9-11?  How about the grassy knoll?  What kind of strange things do you think we should all just believe in?”

Well, I will say that you probably aren’t an average citizen if you don’t have a couple of thoughts floating around in your head that others might just think are crazy.  But before I get down to my quirks and amusing ideologies, let’s consider another group with some crazy ideas.

The world at the time of the Constitution was understood by the educated and powerful (read that “Anyone who was actually anybody”) to be a place where populations needed guidance by a person whose destiny to govern was usually bestowed by God (or at least that is what they told you – it is not easy to argue with God-given destiny).

A small group of people with lots of theories of conspiracies in other countries and even in their own land decided to indulge themselves in another crazy idea – that instead of God giving one person the destiny and power to completely rule a population, why wouldn’t he just grant the power of individual governance to each person?  Yeah, a crazy thought.  First, it actually meant that these folks believed in a Creator that was more than just a random unassociated luck.  Second, it actually meant that these folks thought regular people were capable of suitable self-governance.  What a wild idea for the time (and actually, for today as well, it seems).

So before you judge a person by whether the world thinks their ideas are crazy, remember that you enjoy much of the life you have today because folks with crazy ideas made sure that you could.

So here goes.

I do believe that we are not alone in the Universe, but I have never been visited, examined, probed, prodded, brain-drained or in any other way had direct contact with anyone or anything I could not identify as from THIS planet.  It is simply my understanding of math that forces me to believe we cannot be the only beings in the vast expanse of space.  I do not have any fear or particular excitement about meeting any other beings, if I had that opportunity I know it would be at least nice to have the debate settled.  But belief in technologically superior friends or foes?  Nah.  But I do like a good Sci-Fi alien story as much as the next guy.

I do believe that all Governments, especially the big central ones, conspire regularly to keep their citizens and subjects in the dark about things.  I believe that every large organization has people within it that look for expedient solutions even if they would not be generally palatable to the public, and that some of those expedient solutions make their way from idea to reality.  I believe that there are grains of truth hidden in all the great cover-up scandals and conspiracy theories.  And I believe that nothing worthy of a national scandal happens without at least one person who should know better being involved.  That being said, I am sick to death of people who accuse the Government as an organized entity of such tragedies as the 9-11 attacks and the deaths of thousands of our citizens on that day.  I believe that there were many improprieties involving bureaus of state, lots of problems in procedures, faux-pas all over the place, but I refuse to believe that our Federal Government was behind that incident or any of the other tragedies that conspiracy theorists seem to need to thrive on.

Organizations, especially large and disjointed ones like our Federal Government, make mistakes.  And those things should be brought out into the light and people responsible should face the consequences.  But if I thought for one minute that our Federal Government was responsible for actually killing US Citizens to advance it’s agenda, I would not be running for Senate, I would be verifying my facts and taking my fight to each individual responsible, there would be no limit to what I would do to remove a threat like that from being an active part of our Government.

Do I believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or Ron Paul, Savior of the Free World?  Yes to all, in the same way.  I believe that certain icons stand for things, and when the things they stand for catch on with people, and then their recognition and influence grows.  For hundreds of years, the mythic individuals above (minus the Great Ron, of course) have stood for things that resonate with people, basic instincts that say ‘This idea is somehow right’.  And so believing in them is not silly, unless you have conversations with them and invite them regularly for afternoon tea or something like that.  But you have to know what it is you are believing in.  Now for the kicker.  I was a precinct captain during Dr. Paul’s campaign in 2008.  I worked for him, promoted him, not because I wanted a white knight to put my hopes on, but because the message he promoted was one of sanity, individual responsibility, freedom and free markets, fiscal responsibility, and constitutionality (for the most part – nobody is ever perfect but if you wait for perfect you will never get anywhere).  Most of all he promoted a message of individual involvement – if this government is of, for and by the people, then by God the people better get out there and be the Government.  So I believe in the ideals promoted by Dr. Paul for the most part, and the things I do if elected will likely look a lot like some things Dr. Paul might do.  Not because I idolize him, but because a good idea is a good idea and should be used, no matter where it comes from.

I will add to this page as more and more people ask me questions whose answers belong here.
