Gun Control

(Best stand-up lounge comic voice)

“I believe everyone who has a gun better damn well be able to control it!!!”

No, seriously.

Here’s the two versions of the amendment that seem to be causing all the ruckus

The Second Amendment, version as ratified by the states, in this exact wording and capitalization

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment, version as passed by Congress, in this exact wording and capitalization

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

See the difference?  It’s there, clear as day.  And the lawyers and interpreters seem to think that somewhere in the placement of capital letters there is a key to allow the government to infringe on the right of the People (people) to bear arms (Arms)

But here’s what I don’t see.  I don’t see any word, set of words, or full phrase, anywhere in either version, that says anything like “except under certain conditions” or “except when inconvenient” or actually any mention of the word except or any similar word or concept.  Do you?

‘nuf said.
